5 Ways to Refresh Your Morning Routine

It’s time to talk about morning routines.

We know how easy it can be to hit that snooze button, roll out of bed at the last minute, and head to work without taking much time to take care of yourself before starting your day. While it may be a way for you to get a few more minutes of sleep, it is also an easy way to add more stress to your day.

Today, we will be going over a few healthy habits to incorporate into your morning routine for a fresher, happier start to your day. And, if you are in the Albany area and interested in incorporating outdoor yoga sessions into your week, contact our yoga studio — The Hot Yoga Spot — today! Our yoga studio is taking these extra measures in order to keep our staff and fellow yogis safe and healthy during this time.

1. Wake up an hour earlier.

We know how difficult this one can be, but trust us — once you start going to bed a little earlier and forcing yourself to wake up the first time your alarm goes off rather than hitting snooze, it becomes much easier. Not only that, but it will likely begin to feel good and more productive. Think about how much more you could do with an extra hour in the morning — even if it’s simply having a cup of coffee on your porch or reading your favorite book!

2. Drink water.

We know that you likely hear about this everywhere, but when you wake up in the morning, fill up your water bottle or a glass of cold water and drink it. Not only will this help wake you up, but it will also help get your digestive system moving and hydrate your body after a long period without having any water.

3. Do some self-care.

If you are the type of person who considers brushing your teeth a form of morning self-care, this one is for you. While brushing your teeth is important, try adding in an extra step or two to show your body some love. This could be a quick wash of your face, applying some SPF lotion, and giving your face a nice little massage. While it may seem small, these little actions pay off when you consistently do them day by day.

4. Make your bed.

Every morning, start by making your bed. It may seem like such a minor detail, but you will be surprised to see how accomplished and organized you feel each morning just by doing this simple task. It truly does help set the tone for the entire day!

5. End your shower with cold water.

Towards the end of your morning shower, turn your water as cold as you can handle it and try to stay in the cold water for one minute. This will help you to become more alert by energizing your nervous system and increase circulation in the body. Some people even report that their skin looks better as a result of cold showers due to this increase in circulation.
